LẠI YAU HEI, 44 years, master of Fishing junk No. 943 H.. residing on board, of Hong Kong, states:-
At about 16.00 hours on the 10.3.41, I sailed from Shaukiwan in company with fishing junk 4247 H.C. for the purpose of deep sea fishing with a crew of 12 all told.

At about 08 90 hours on the 12.3.41, whilst sailing 4 miles south of SAM MUN KAN (Long. 114° 39' E. Lat. 22° 26' N.) about one mile astern of junk No. 4247 H.C., I saw a Japanese trawler go alongside junk No. 4247 H.C. About 30 minutes later, the same Japanese trawler which was painted grey, two masts, one short funnel with the figure 7 painted amidships and flying the Japanese flag, steamed in our direction and when a short distance away several shots were fired from the trawler in our direction. I then lowered my sails and the trawler came alongside my junk. Four unarmed Japanese sailors, dressed in Khaki uniform then boarded and searched my junk and 3 rifles and 300 rounds of ammunition were transferred to the trawler which sailed away in the direction of SAM MUN KAN. the 14.3.41.

My usual fishing ground is around PING HOI (Long.114° 51′ E. Lat. 22° 37' N.) and when stopped by the Japanese trawler I had 12
piculs of fish on board which was not touched. My catch is always sold at Hong Kong.
